Plus-size Retro Swimsuits for Any Figure Type

Summer is always slathered with with retro swimsuits for women that flatter every figure.

A few years ago, I wrote an article about retro swimsuits that flatter anyone of any figure type.  Was the same still true?  As it appears, when I updated this article, I was finding the same classic swimsuits.  It is clear that the swimsuit industry has listened to customers and declared several retro styles to be the true classics.

The retro swimsuits for women we see each summer should have stayed a trend throughout the decades because they look so good on most plus-size women. But there is also a hidden advantage because retro fashions came from a time when women felt they needed to have more coverage in order to be modest.  Although Americans today are hardly modest about showing a little skin, a swimsuit with more coverage will protect you from sunburn.

For more about the swimsuits that prevent sunburn issue, check out another article I wrote.

Health Adventures Covered by High Waisted Retro Look

The high cut waist of the two-piece style is a great look for women with a pleasant curve to their belly. Many women have a little extra tummy weight that is somewhat unflattering in certain types of suits. In particular, it does gather correctly when there are clingy materials used for the swimsuit bottom. BrazilBikini.com shows several examples of this high waist retro style.

Basically, when you have coverage to the belly button, and a low-cut brief line, it gives the eye a little more to work with. It also covers a tummy area that may be impressed with battle scars of child-bearing, surgery, scarring, or other health adventures. This style is more prolific than you think and can be found online.  The day I searched Amazon in 2014, there were 31 pages of high-waist swimsuits to choose from, and it was the end of August.

Ruched Retro Suits Flatter the Stick Figure

The ruched look, for the average-weight and proportioned lady, is a great look to give you curves. If you have an athletic figure, sometimes it can be difficult to find a swimsuit that doesn't make you look too twiggy, boxy, angular, or flat. If you have a figure that needs a little on the top or the bottom, then a ruched look is worth investigating. The gathering at the hips, behind, and bust make a flattering extra layer where ever they are placed.  To get a more visual of what I am talking about, check out these other ruched swimsuits on Amazon.

Can I get an A-line dress in a swimsuit?

Women are favoriting the A-Line one-piece retro swimsuit for reasons other than skin coverage. Mainly, there has been a growing trend to use swimming clothing as part of your summer wardrobe outside of the water. Already a popular idea in places like Florida, this trend is spreading inland. Interestingly, the styles of swimsuits popular in the modest (but edgy) eras of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s are popular for a second reason.

Primarily, the A-line dress looks great on almost every figure, so shopping for an A-line swimsuit is a no-brainer for most women that aren't sure about their figure type.  Sadly, A-line swimsuit is not the term you will be able to use when you search online for a swimsuit for this flattering cut.  To find a one-piece swimsuit with an A-line cut, the terms you can search for to get shopping choices are swim coverup or a swim skirt.

The other term you will want to use is tankini.  This is a kind of swim shirt that works well for anyone that doesn't like a tight fit across their abdomen or has scars that can't get sunburnt.   It is also a sexy way to conceal medical devices like insulin pumps.  Tankinis are also great when you wear them with swim skirts for playing beach sports like volleyball.

Plus-Size Dresses for August 2014

Are you looking for a nice plus-size dress for summery August weather?  Each year, it seems like the whole back to school shopping drive that happens in Early August to September causes all the good late summer styles to drift away to make room for fall fashion.  Regardless, Amazon has a few hits (and at least one major miss) that look good on someone like me that is an apple-shape as well as the common pear-shaped proportions.

Take a look at my favorites (from cheapest at $30) and one dream gown that cost $3000!
